The Department was established in the academic year 2001-2002, with the establishment of the College of Arts.

- The Department comprises (25) teachers, of whom (23) hold a doctorate, and (2)   hold a master's degree.

- The number of teachers who hold the title of Professor is (12), those who hold the title of Assistant Professor (10), those who hold the title of instructor (1), and those who hold the title of Assistant Instructor (2).

- The Department includes professors in Ancient History, Islamic history, Modern and Contemporary history.

- The Department awards a bachelor’s degree in history as well as a master’s and doctorate degrees in Islamic History and Modern History.
