About the Department

 The Department of Translation is one of the departments concerned with teaching the art of translation from one language to another. It complements the English department at the colleges of arts and languages. Courses offered in the Department of Translation focus on theories of translation, translation from and into the two languages concerned, and types of translation such as legal, technical, literary, and audiovisual translation, in addition to teaching other language subjects such as grammar, linguistics, and comparative linguistics. The Department of Translation represents a basic building brick in the edifice of the College of Arts, in addition to the other departments in the College, such as the Department of English, the Department of Arabic, the Department of History, the Department of Geography, the Department of Media, and the Department of Sociology. The establishment of the Department of Translation at the College of Arts – University of Anbar will represent an oasis for students from the western region of Iraq in particular and other regions of Iraq in general who have a passion for studying translation. It will contribute with its counterpart translation departments at Al-Mustansiriya University, the University of Mosul, the University of Basra and the Iraqi University in preparing and training university students to be active translators in various activities, especially after the current increasing need for this specialization. The tremendous development of scientific, political, economic, and international variables and the development of relations between countries necessitated the need for a mediator between the different languages in the world, i.e., the translator, in addition to the growing labor market for qualified translators trained in the various types of translation, including the written translation (literary, commercial, scientific, journalistic, legal, and technical) and interpretation (simultaneous and consecutive) in conferences and seminars. The Department awards the BA degree in translation.
