The Desert Development Department was established pursuant to Ministerial Creation Order No. 8517 in 2008.

 

The message

Success and distinction in comprehensive scientific research and field studies to serve knowledge through creativity to achieve the department's goals, while providing advice to its applicants and cooperating with the corresponding departments inside and outside the center as well as university colleges to achieve sustainable development.

 

Vision

Reaching leadership in supporting research trends in the Desert Studies Center as one of the institutions of higher education and scientific research and working on scientific, knowledge and research integration in order to establish a real development of natural resources in disparate environments in general and dry in particular.

 

The objectives of the Desert Development Department

Since its establishment, this department has sought to achieve goals that it has set upon itself, including what is at the local level, some at the regional and international levels, through its interest in research and study in developing desert areas in Iraq and working through the following goals:

1.     Establishing a bank for information related to natural resources in the Iraqi deserts.

2.     Providing scientific advice and expertise and everything that falls to the department's responsibility in the fields of plants, pastures, wild animals and livestock.

3.     Conducting field studies and field research in all areas of the department, including dams and biological diversity in general.

4.     To suggest the appropriate vegetation for the establishment of reserves and oases in a way that serves to combat or reduce the manifestations of desertification.

5.     Presenting scientific output to contribute to serving the labor market by investing the medicinal and pastoral plants in various fields in line with the vision of patriotism to serve the country.

6.     Paying attention to livestock, whether wild or domestic, in order to preserve the animal diversity in the region.

7.     Working to open doors for cooperation and interaction with the university institutions through professors and researchers in a way that serves their orientations that are in harmony with the directions of our center.

8.     Spreading knowledge of the desert environment through the expansion of the recently established museum that deals with the desert environment.

9.     Opening the horizons of scientific cooperation with scientific and research institutions locally, regionally and internationally to serve the interests of both parties.

10.          Expanding the plant herbarium that was established in the recent period of time.
