About the Department and Academic Program

An overview of the Physics Department

The Department of Physics was established in the academic year 1989/1990, a year after the establishment of the college and the university, and the department graduated the first group in the academic year 1992/93. Postgraduate / master's studies were opened in the department in (2002-2003), and then the department stopped accepting master's students. Because of the security situation that the country has experienced, master's studies have resumed again in the Physics Department for the academic year 2009-2010, according to the formal letter of the University of Anbar / Department of Scientific Affairs and Graduate Studies No. (9371) on 12/24/2008. A doctoral study was opened in the department in year of 2020-2021.

The department aims to graduate scientific staff who serve the community by graduating physics teachers for secondary schools, as well as graduating advanced scientific staff with master's holders who serve the community through their work in scientific and industrial institutions. The duration of study in the department for undergraduate studies is four years, during which the student studies various specialized subjects (properties of matter - electrical - heat - mechanics - magnetic engineering optics - linear algebra - computers - advanced electricity - physical optics - sound and wave motion - advanced calculus - astronomy - Advanced magnetism - thermodynamic - differential equations - atmospheric physics - health physics - atomic physics - electronics - renewable energies - molecular physics - electronic circuits - quantum mechanics - statistical mechanics - analytical mechanics - nuclear physics - electromagnetics - solid - nanotechnology - electrodynamics - laser - Radiation Physics) in addition to educational materials (educational psychology - developmental psychology - foundations of education - scientific research curriculum - educational administration - curricula and teaching methods - educational guidance - measurement and evaluation - teaching applications - human rights - freedoms - English and Arabic) . The department has graduated 27 groups of holders of Bachelor’s Science in Physics and 12 group holders of Masters. At the present time, the department contains advanced scientific staff and advanced scientific research laboratories comparable to international research laboratories, including the pollution laboratory, the composite materials laboratory and the thin-membrane laboratory. The department has demonstrated its sobriety, its leading position and its ability to keep pace with scientific development by coordinating with state departments and the private sector and assisting them through physical consultations and cooperation in developing their technical staff.
