Under the supporting of the Dean of the College of Education for Humanities, Prof. Dr.Taha Ibrahim Shabib.

The Department of Geography held a scientific symposium entitled (Investment of Renewable Energy for Urban Development in Anbar Governorate) on Tuesday, 8/3/2022, at eleven o’clock and at Al-Jahez Hall in the college. The symposium included three axes:   

The first axis: alternative energy and its impact on sustainable development (Al-Anbar Governorate as a model) by Professor Dr. Nazeer Sabbar Hamad, who explained the concept of alternative energy, its sources and the ingredients for its production, and what is the impact of this type of energy on development projects

The second axis: alternative energy, ways and obstacles (Iraq as a model) by Dr. Khaled Sabbar Muhammad, who addressed the most important elements of electrical energy production from the most important insistence, which are solar radiation and wind in Iraq in general, and what are the obstacles to production

The third axis: urban planning for cities through renewable energy systems (sustainable cities) by Dr. Zuhair Jaber Musharraf, and in this axis, he presents the planning of new cities in a manner consistent with the potential of energy production and consumption in these cities.

Seminar recommendations:

1- The necessity of investing alternative energy sources such as solar energy and wind energy and staying away from traditional energy sources such as oil and gas to preserve the environment from pollutants.

2- Financial and moral support from the government and encouraging investment in renewable energies.

3- Revitalizing the scientific research movement in the field of renewable and alternative energy.

4- Encouraging cooperation with the leading European countries in this field and benefiting from Arab and foreign experiences through the exchange of experiences.

5- Enact new laws by the Iraqi government that encourage investment in renewable energy and exempt it from taxes to encourage investors.

A large number of distinguished professors and students attended the symposium. After the symposium ended, the audience was given the opportunity to ask questions and make interventions. The attendees asked a number of questions that were answered by the honorable lecturers.
