Chemistry Section Laboratories

1 - Undergraduate Laboratories

The Chemistry section has nine laboratories with capacity of twenty students each. These laboratories are well furnished with glassware and other equipments like balances, centrifuges, water baths, heaters, ovens, melting and boiling points device, viscometer, electrical conductivity, pH meter, voltmeter, spectrophotometers, etc.

Some of them are supplied with chromatography visual and ultraviolet, turbidity, flame atomic effusion, education chromatograph devices, polarizations devices and some microscopes.

These devices are distributed as follows:

1 - Analytical Chemistry Lab.
2 - General Chemistry Lab.
3 - Instrumental Analysis Lab.
4 - Organic Chemistry Lab.
5 - Inorganic Chemistry Lab.

6- Physical Chemistry Lab.
7 – Biochemistry Lab.

8 - Organic diagnosis Lab.
9 - Industrial Chemistry Lab.

2 - Computer Laboratories

The chemistry section has 2 computer labs, each one contains 15 modern computers, students are trained on the modern software and applications.

3 – Research Laboratories

The chemistry section has a number of research laboratories for teaching staff, Postgraduate, and research projects. These laboratories are equipped with instruments such as Flame atomic absorption (FAA), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), UV-Visible Spectrophotometer and IR- Spectrophotometer, optic radiation, oil products properties measuring devices.

In addition to simple devices as mentioned above. The section looks forward to obtain a number of instruments such as C. H. N. analyzer, nuclear magnetic resonance NMR and FTIR spectroscopy and other specialized equipment.

The Section Research Laboratories are

1 - Analytical Chemistry Research Lab.
2 – Organic Chemistry Research Lab.
3 – Inorganic Chemistry Research Lab.
4 - Physical Chemistry Research Lab.
5 - Biochemistry Research Lab.
6 - Industrial Chemistry Research Lab.
7 - Extraction Research Lab.
8 - Oil Research Lab.

Briefing on Laboratories

A. Undergraduate Studies Laboratory:

1. General Chemistry Laboratory: In this lab, the principles of Descriptive and Qualitative Chemistry are taught for the first stage students in the other sections of the colleges such as Physics, Biology and Geology.

2. Analytical Chemistry Laboratory: In this lab, the first and second stage students, atomic ions exposure and ways of concentration assessment by different weight and volume methods.

3. Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory: This lab presents experiments to the second stage students. Experiments are studied and carried out to prepare and purify the main compounds group elements. Also, experiments are taught for the third stage students in which the transitional elements of the compounds are prepared and diagnosed through measuring physical properties on the spectra methods.

4. Organic Chemistry Laboratory: in this lab, the second and third stage students are taught ways of preparing some organic compounds in addition to extract and distillate solvents and study some of the physical properties of organic compounds.

5. Biochemistry Laboratory: It presents experiments on ways of recognizing proteins and Amine Acids through certain measurements. In addition to teach  third and fourth stage students ways of determining blood Cholesterol and some human body tests such as enzymes and fats.

6. Industrial Chemistry Laboratory: In this lab, Second and third stage students are taught the experiments on Polymers and some simple industries in addition to some oil physical tests.

7. Instrumental Analysis Laboratory: This lab presents high techniques experiments to teach four stage students determining trace of elements by atomic spectra in addition to high selectivity liquid chromatography device (HPLC). There are, also other experiments such as gas chromatography which is used to separate the chemical compounds.

B. Postgraduate Laboratories:

They include all aforementioned branches of chemistry. These labs are used to do researches of the postgraduate studies and also some fourth stage projects.
