Under the direct guidance of Mr. President of the University Prof. Dr. Khalid Battal Al-Najim, the University of Anbar organized a national campaign to support the candidacy of Prof. Dr. Salih Al-Hasnawi for the post of Director-General of the organization of Education, Science, and Culture of UNESCO in competition with nine candidates from a number of different countries.

      This nomination is the first of its kind for an Iraqi academic figure to occupy the position of global importance. This came after his Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Issa, directed to all universities to support the candidacy of Dr. Hasnawi for UNESCO after he viewed the press issue published in Al-Zaman newspaper on 11/05/2016.

      It is worth mentioning that Al-Hasnawi has held many government positions as well as his role in Iraqi academic institutions. The President of the University of Anbar pointed out that supporting Al-Hasnawi is a national duty that contributes to raise the name of Iraq in international forums, and putting it in the right place which deserves it, praising the scientific achievements of Hasnawi, and wishing him success in this forum. Al-Hasnawi is competing with a group of candidates, including the French Minister of Culture, a minister from Qatar, and others for this post.
