An overview of the Chemistry Department

The Department of Chemistry was established in the academic year 1990/1989, a year after the founding of the university. Postgraduate studies were opened in the department and the first group was accepted in the academic year 2002-2003. Then the department stopped accepting postgraduate students due to the security situation in the country. Postgraduate studies resumed in The Department of Chemistry again in the academic year 2010-2009. The Department of Chemistry is considered one of the important departments in the college, as the department aims to graduate teaching staff specialized in chemistry and provide them with theoretical and practical experiences to become qualified to teach in secondary schools, in addition to providing the rest of the ministries and institutions with master’s holders in specializations A different task that includes (Inorganic Chemistry - Organic Chemistry - Physical Chemistry - Analytical Chemistry - Biochemistry). The duration of study in the department for undergraduate studies is four years, during which the student studies different specialized materials (analytical chemistry - inorganic chemistry - organic chemistry - physical chemistry - - life chemistry - coordination chemistry - industrial chemistry - automatic analysis - quantum chemistry and spectra - organic diagnostics) in addition to the materials Educational (educational psychology - developmental psychology - foundations of education - scientific research curriculum - educational administration - curricula and teaching methods - educational guidance, measurement and evaluation - teaching applications - human rights - freedoms - English and Arabic). The department graduated the first group in the academic year 1993/1992 and the number of graduating students was 14 students, and the department continued to graduate students of undergraduate studies, where twenty-eight (28) groups were graduated from holding a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and dozens of holders of masters. The department also aims to prepare the scientific staff in Chemistry to contribute to filling the suffering of higher education institutions from the need for teachers, as well as activating the research activity in the department and keeping pace with the scientific acceleration now and in the future in the service of the scientific process in our country.
