Effect of Metal Foam on Thermal Performance of

The seminar was presented by Lec. Muhannad A. Abdul-Rahim.  This study presented the performance of the heat sink with foamed metal fins and its comparison with the heat sink with solid fins to see the improvement in heat transfer by turbulent convection.

Several variables and their impact on heat sink performance have been studied, namely reducing the upper diameter and increasing the lower diameter at the same time, increasing the number of fins, and reducing the height of the foam fins while keeping the total size of the fin’s constant.

It was concluded that the use of foamed metal fins and by changing the studied factors enhances heat dissipation and reduces friction losses.

The seminar was attended by Scientific Committee with number of teaching staff in department.
