A Symposium at the University of Anbar about Water Security between Reality and Challenges

Under the patronage of Prof. Mushtaq Talib Al-Neda, President of University of Anbar, the Upper Euphrates Basin Development Center at Anbar University, in cooperation with the Al-Aghsan Foundation for Agricultural and Environmental Development, today Monday the twenty-second of this March, a scientific symposium entitled Water Security between Reality and Challenges.

At the beginning of the symposium, the President of the University stressed during his speech that the University is keen to hold such scientific symposiums that, through its recommendations and proposals, address many problems in this aspect because sustainable development is what we are all working on, thanking and appreciating the efforts exerted by the organizers of the symposium.

The symposium, which was administered by a. M. Dr. Essam Taha Yassin and Prof. Dr. Khaled Naji Abed, gave several lectures. The first lecture, titled The Role of Academic Organizations in Sustainable Development, was given by Dr. Khaled Naji from Al-Aghsan Foundation for Agricultural and Environmental Development.

The second lecture was delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ammar Hatem Kamel from the Department of Cultural Relations, titled Dams Proposed to Maintain Food Security, while the lecture titled Water Harvesting, Reality and Future Visions was delivered by Eng. Alaa Al-Falahi from Al-Aghsan Foundation.

As for the last lecture, it was titled Evaluating the Role of the Constituents of Agricultural Production Affecting Agricultural Development in Anbar Governorate. It was delivered by Prof. Dr. Kamal Saleh Gazguz and Prof. Dr. Diaa Khamis Ali from the Faculty of Arts – University of Anbar.

The symposium, which was attended by the Director of the Al-Aghsan Foundation for Agricultural Development, the Director of Water Resources, the Governor’s Advisor for Oasis Affairs, and a group of university professors, aims to shed light on the reality and challenges facing water resources and effective ways to manage it in Anbar Governorate in particular and Iraq in general, as well as establishing partnerships and opening ways of cooperation with Institutions and relevant authorities to promote scientific work that aims for the optimal investment of water resources.

At the end of the symposium, the President of the University presented certificates of appreciation to the participants in the symposium.
