The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings announced the results of the 2026 university evaluation, in which the University of Anbar achieved a new qualitative leap that strengthened its international presence, ranking 142nd globally and second nationally among Iraqi public and private universities, reaffirming its sustainable path toward global recognition.
The ranking evaluates universities based on a set of advanced indicators that measure institutional commitment to sustainability, including environmentally friendly infrastructure, energy efficiency and emissions reduction, waste management and recycling, water resource management, development of on-campus transportation systems, as well as the integration of sustainability concepts into education and scientific research. The University of Anbar demonstrated strong performance across these indicators, enabling it to achieve this important global advancement.
This achievement comes as a result of the sustainable development plans led by the University Presidency, represented by its President, Professor Dr. Mushtak Talib Saleh Al-Nrda, which have contributed to strengthening a culture of green practices and developing an integrated university environment that supports the Sustainable Development Goals.
The University President congratulated all members of the University of Anbar on this remarkable progress, affirming that this achievement reflects the university’s commitment to sustainability principles in line with the United Nations agenda. He also called for continuing efforts to implement the developmental vision aimed at making the University of Anbar a sustainable, digitally connected university, and at the forefront of Iraqi universities transitioning toward fifth-generation universities through integrated efforts across all its formations.
