Head of Department Iraqi heritage is rich of traditional medicine and herbal medical plants. Nowadays, herbs and medical plants plays a significant role in what is known as alternative or complementary medicine. Thus, the main objectives of department of Pharmacognosy are to determine the quantity and quality of the active essences found in medical plants and the practical methods of extracting and purifying them, as well as cooperating with other institutions to map out the general lines for the optimal use of medical herbs and nutritional supplements. These objectives can be accomplished through teaching pharmacology and Pharmacognosy to the undergraduate students.
