The start of the annual cultural and scientific week activities

 

The activities of the annual cultural and scientific week of the College of Science were launched today, Tuesday, July 7, 2021, at Jaber bin Hayyan Hall, in the presence of the President of the University of Anbar, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Talib Al-Nida, the esteemed.

Where the Dean of the College of Science delivered his speech welcoming the President of the University and the distinguished guests, mentioning that this cultural and scientific festival comes within the plan of the College, which it is accustomed to every year, wishing success and benefiting from this forum.

Then the President of the University gave his speech on this occasion, thanking the efforts made in this festival, saying that the College of Sciences is important in managing society, as it intervenes in all important aspects of life that serve the individual, including a launch for many aspects of life.

Then His Excellency blessed the College of Science for obtaining the first place in the university classification at the University of Anbar, which is the first of its kind among Iraqi universities.

 The activities of the cultural and scientific week opened with a lecture entitled ((The Water Crisis in Iraq)) delivered by Prof. Abd Salih Fayadh / Head of the Department of Applied Geology.

The lecture dealt with the causes of the water crisis of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and their future effects on society and the environment, including the problems with the riparian countries of the two rivers (Turkey - Iran - Syria) and what are the proposed solutions to overcome the crisis with an emphasis on societal awareness of the crisis and the need to rationalize water consumption, in addition to emphasizing the media role in raising awareness.

         Then it was followed by a virtual lecture via the Google meet platform, delivered by Prof. Dr. Imad Abdul Rihman Mohamed Salih / Dean of the College of Sciences entitled ((Earthquake prediction between success and failure)). The lecturer addressed the concept of earthquake prediction, which means accurate determination of the location, time and size of the earthquake. The lecturer also touched on the concept of seismic warnings, which are the signals that precede an earthquake, which include physical, chemical, geological and geophysical changes, as well as observing the abnormal behavior of some animals prior to the earthquake. The lecture reviewed the only successful prediction of an earthquake in China in 1974 and the many failures.
