The Higher Euphrates Basin Developing Center (HEBDC) aims to provide strategic studies that contribute to a comprehensive development in the region through the adoption of scientific plans and their implementation follow-up and the preparation of databases needed by the consultant , designer and investor in various fields in order to achieve comprehensive development on the sustainable scientific basis to ensure sustainability and development, also to find ways to cooperate with relevant authorities, and interact with local, regional and international organizations in different fields of specialty.

The reasons for creation the Higher Euphrates Basin

Development Center

1.     The location of the University of Anbar within the Upper Euphrates basin.

2.     Diversity of the natural resources of the Euphrates basin.

3.     The wide area of the Euphrates basin and its expansion in three countries and the most of it is located in Iraq.

4.     The large number of large valleys fed to this basin, which did not has the study and attention required.

5.     The occurrence of the basin within the areas of arid and dry areas, which need specific patterns in the study and investment.

6.     The scarcity of studies dealing with the geology and hydrology of the Euphrates basin and maximizing its water resources.

7.     The need for studies in the industrial, agricultural and tourism development of this basin and its correlation with the environment and society.

8.     The presence of Haditha dam and irrigation projects and other large water bodies such as Habbaniyah and Thirthar.

1.     Harvest rainwater and manage small dams on valleys.

2.     Small multi - purpose dams on the Euphrates River.

3.     Studies of the river environment in the Upper Euphrates Basin.

5.     Recycling of wastewater to reuse in construction of green belts around the cities of the Upper Euphrates.
