Management and development of water resources in Anbar province


Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Mushtak Talib Al-Nida, the President of University of Anbar and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Ameer Abdul Rahman Hilal, Dean of the College of Engineering, the Upper Euphrates Basin Development Center in cooperation with the College of Engineering, held a joint scientific symposium entitled: (Integrated Management and Sustainable Development of Water Resources in Anbar Province). On Tuesday, April 20, 2021, ibn al-Haytham Hall in the Department of Dam Engineering and Water Resources at the College.

The symposium was attended by the respected university president, a number of teaching staff and students of science, as well as a number of service department officials and specialists in Anbar province.

The symposium was based on key objectives, the most important of which were to focus on the topics of management and planning of water resources and to meet the challenges in Anbar province, and the possibility of exploiting the available quantities of seasonal floods resulting from the rains falling on the region through the optimal exploitation of surface and groundwater resources to achieve sustainable development aimed at providing decent living requirements to the people of the region and meeting their household and agricultural needs of water in a scientific thoughtful manner.

The most important lectures discussed at the symposium are:

-      Water management and sustainable development (Horan Valley as a model).

-      Management, environment and sustainable development.

-      Managing water releases for dams and lakes in Anbar province.

-      The role of modern technologies in the sustainable development of water resources in Anbar province.

-      Groundwater investigation in watersheds using analytical hierarchy processes (AHP) and geographical information systems (GIS).

The respected President of the University praised the efforts made at this symposium and pointed out its importance at the scientific and service levels of Anbar province, and stressed the need to come up with recommendations through which can the higher authorities can be addressed to work on them and start implementing them.

At the end of symposium, the discussions were allowed on the scientific topics of the symposium and then the recommendations were announced as well as the certificates of gratitude were granted to participants
