An Overview of the Department of Biology

  The department is one of the basic blocks of the scientific community as it lays the touch stone for all the basic   sciences and technologies in the community. The department aims at consolidating scientific abilities and   potentials to achieve the highest scientific level. It provides under and post graduate students with the chance to   spread scientific knowledge and awareness. It also aims to provide the community with researchers and teachers   who are able to manage difficulties and cope with changes and developments in the world and contribute to   develop health, environmental and scientific institutions via supporting them to solve the problems they encounter.

  Providing female graduates and leaders who are equipped with high research, teaching and scientific skills that     enable them to get along with the dramatic developments our world is witnessing in various fields of knowledge   and produce a scientifically and intellectually unique generation. The department also aims to promote the status     of woman as a basic pillar of the community and help her get rid of traditional beliefs that hinder their ambitions.  

   The Strategic Objectives of the Department

     1.     Preparing qualified staff with high scientific and teaching skills to provide the community and its institutions     teaching, scientific and technical experiences in various life fields.  

      2.        To cope with world scientific and technological development in various branches of biology. 

   Educational Objectives

      1.        Developing the scientific quality and the teaching performance of researchers and students.   

     2.        Developing and upgrading the theoretical and practical sides of curriculum. 

     3.        Adopting modern scientific and technical methods to develop practical researches in various fields of biology.

  The General Objectives of Research

       1.     Finding various solutions to problems of environmental pollution through identifying the reasons behind pollution and putting workable solutions for them.

        2.     Investigating reasons behind spreading diseases and finding solutions for these diseases.  

        3.     Tackling problems related to flora of the plants and animals and And combating the extinction of new species in our environment, especially genetically modified. 

       4.     Benefiting from biotechnology research and genetic engineering in the development of all industrial, medical, chemical and food industries.

  Objectives of Community Service

      1.     Building up a conscious community through expanding general horizons related to various life sciences to       address many health, environmental and industrial problems.

     2.        Supporting community activities through holding seminars related to various aspects of biology.

      3.        Providing scientific experiences and researches’ and theses’ outcomes to be made use of in fixing real life     issues.

     1.         Scientific and cultural exchanges with other Iraqi universities.

      2.        Supporting cultural, social, sports and artistic students’ activities.

 3.     Training students in educational institutions (schools) to promote women graduates who are competent and  have a high capacity to teach.
