About the Department

 

  

The department was founded in the academic year 2000-2001, and 40 students were admitted in the department. It received the first session of the graduates of the Scientific, Literary and Islamic Studies, then the batches followed year after year. The first batch graduated from the department in the year 2004-2005 and it is still continuing to provide the community with graduates who are able to teach and engage in all institutions.

 

The first person who headed the department was Dr. Jassim Muhammad Jassim, and the number of teaching staff did not exceed 10 teachers. The syllabi of the department followed the syllabi of the University of Baghdad. The admission to postgraduate studies was opened in the department in the academic year 2006-2007 with the literature branch only, while the second scientific branch (linguistics) was opened in the year 2010-2011. Then the research in the field of linguistic and literary studies was developed year after year until the department became overflowed with many holders of scientific titles, and they were distributed between the titles of professors, which were (14), assistant professors were (11), and instructors were (6), and the holders of title of assistant instructor were (2). Thus it took upon itself to make every effort to keep pace with contemporary theories and ideas with the launch of originality, then the criterion in order to arouse advancement of thought, philosophy and literature.
