Publication of a Scientific Research within Clarivate Index Q1

L. Osama I. Abed, researcher at the Renewable Energy Research Center – University of Anbar in cooperation with researchers. Publish a scientific article in scientific journal Journal of Alloys and Compounds” that has Clarivate index Q1 with IF=6.2 titled:

"Microstructural characterisation and compound formation in rapidly solidified SiGe alloy"

The study addressed the development of equiatomic silicon-germanium compounds using rapid cooling via the Drop-Tube Technique, through the formation of micro-powder of SiGe alloy with varying volume fractions, followed by the examination of the microscopic characterization of these materials. The targeted application for these materials is thermoelectric power generators, where these semiconductors have the potential to capture heat waste and convert it into energy. On the other hand, germanium is considered expensive compared to silicon, estimated to be about 10 times more costly. Developing such compounds with different germanium contents enables manufacturers to overcome the challenge of the high cost of germanium.

Moreover, the scientific importance of developing compounds from Si and Ge constitutes a fundamental point in understanding the phase equilibrium diagram of the SiGe system, noting that this system forms random solid solutions and such compounds do not exist. TEM analysis revealed diffraction spots in germanium-rich structural regions, indicating the resulting chemical arrangement in the material. The study also indicated that most of these structures were multiples of the 5at% Ge ratio of germanium, confirming the occurrence of a superlattice atomic arrangement.
