 An overview of the scientific library at the College of Education for Pure Sciences

 The Library of the College of Education for Pure Sciences is considered one of the important and leading libraries at the University of Anbar. It was established in the year 2016 as it contains books specialized in pure scientific fields: life sciences, mathematics, chemistry and physics. Since its establishment until now, the library has been keen to serve scientific research and provide information and data to students of studies. Primary and postgraduate studies at the master’s and doctoral levels, as well as for all researchers and college professors. This service also included everyone from outside the College of Education for Pure Sciences. The library has provided many consultations in scientific fields, and the beneficiary can learn about the library’s books, dissertations, theses, and periodicals by writing the title or the author’s name. The library includes hundreds of books, periodicals, and theses for master’s and doctoral graduate students. It is worth noting that the Deanship of the College, represented by its Dean, the honorable Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Salman Juma, is striving to equip it with modern books and references . The librarian confirmed that the library includes the four scientific specializations present in the college, and the library will provide its services in terms of reading and lending books and scientific periodicals to lecturers, researchers, and students of postgraduate and undergraduate studies.

First: The public library: It is one of the types of libraries that provides its services to all divisions of society, is interested in all fields of knowledge, and has four basic functions: (the cultural function, the educational function, the media function, and the entertainment function

Second: Private library: This means libraries owned by individuals, which vary in terms of the interests of the individuals who collect them, and are not used for public purposes, because they were collected for personal purposes.

 Third: Specialized library: It is one of the types of libraries that is concerned with specialized intellectual production in a specific subject area, or to serve a specific activity, and serves a specific group of society, so it works to cover the subject area that serves this group.

 Fourth: The university or academic library: It is the library attached to the university or higher institute, and its primary function is to provide library materials for research and study. It is one of the most important libraries that reflects the role of libraries in scientific research, as it works to provide knowledge and information in a large number of areas. Various topics, and it receives pioneers from various basic disciplines in the humanities, social, applied, research, and historical sciences, and all Specialties.

What are the goals of university libraries?

University libraries derive their existence and goals from the university itself, as it is an essential subsystem of the university’s overall system, one of the means of its movement and continuity, and the university’s subsystem most closely linked to its academic and research programs, and highlights the importance of the role of libraries in scientific research. The objectives of university libraries can be limited to a group of points, which are as follows:

1- Supporting educational science at the university.

2- It has a major role in encouraging and supporting the scientific research process.

3- Finding study halls for faculty members and graduate students.

4- Focus on building modern groups and activities in some of the distinguished fields for which the university is famous.

5- Distributing branch libraries among colleges in a balanced manner, so that library services extend to all college branches and departments.

6- Employing highly qualified librarians who hold specializations in various fields of human knowledge, in addition to their specialization in library and information science.

7- Increasing the number of employees in the category of para-library assistants, so that library professionals can focus on technical work, such as indexing and classification operations

Advantages of electronic libraries in scientific research

3- The ability to store a lot of information in a small space, and in a very small physical space.

4- The cost of maintaining an electronic or digital library is much lower than maintaining a traditional library. 

5- Access to the electronic library is available from all over the world, as long as an Internet connection is available.

6- Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

7- The possibility of multiple access, as often more than one party can use the same resources at the same time.
