The public discussion of a master’s student (Mohammed Sabir Muttar), Department of Chemistry - College of Science - University of Anbar, took place on Thursday 6/10/2021 at Jaber Bin Hayyan Hall in the College of Science for his tagged thesis (Concentration of heavy metal in sediments as archive of Euphrates River pollution).

The study aims to analyze the spatial variation (vertical and horizontal) of the contamination of the sediments of the Euphrates River with heavy metals from the city of Hit to the city of Fallujah. As well as evaluating the environmental toxicity risks of the elements as a result of the biological access to the concentrations during the bioaccumulation, and using pollution measures to assess the mineral pollution where (Igeo, EF, CF, PLI) was used, where the evaluation indicators generally showed the presence of low to medium pollution in stratified sediments, and medium pollution in Surface sediments in all study stations, and the use of the Risk Assessment Index (RAC) to assess the quality of surface sediments and it was found that there are high and medium risks for some of the elements measured in all study stations.
