Scientific research in a solid journal by Dr. Thamer Y. Mutter

 Dr. Thamer Y. Mutter, one of the faculty members of the Department of Biology- College of Science, published an article in Applied and Environmental Microbiology Journal, which is one of the reputable journals ranked within the first quarter (Q1) according to Scopus site, and one of the journals issued by the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). This research was carried out in collaboration with the US National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). In this research, a unique hydrolase enzyme (uncharacterized previously) encoded by the SWIT0910 gene located on the chromosome of   Sphingomonas RW1 strain is responsible for the conversion of (2-hydroxy-6-oxo-6-phenylhexa-2,4-dienoate) Carcinogenic compounds into non-carcinogenic and less toxic compounds.
