Administration Integrated and sustainable development of water resources in Anbar Governorate


Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mushtak Taleb Al-Neda, the Honorable President of University of Anbar, the Upper Euphrates Basin Development Center and the Directorate of Water Resources in Anbar Governorate participated in the work of the scientific symposium held by the Department of Dams and Water Resources Engineering in the College of Engineering in cooperation with the above mentioned Center and Directorate on Sunday 10/4/2022. The symposium title was:-

(Integrated management and sustainable development of water resources in Anbar Governorate)

The aim of the symposium is to focus on the concepts of management and planning for water resources, facing challenges in Anbar Governorate, the possibility of exploiting the available quantities of seasonal torrents resulting from rains falling on the region, and making strategic plans to develop the region through optimal exploitation of surface and groundwater resources to achieve sustainable development aimed at providing the necessities of   good life for the people of the region and meets their domestic and agricultural needs of water in a scientific and thoughtful manner.

The symposium, which was attended by the Dean of the College of Engineering, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, the Director of the Water Resources Directorate in the governorate, the Governor’s Advisor for Energy Affairs, a number of directors of the concerned government departments, directors of research centers at the University Presidency, a number of college professors and postgraduate students in the department, included a scientific session chaired by Prof. Dr. Ammar Hatem Kamel and Assistant Professor Dr. Jumaa Awad Al-Sumaida'i as its rapporteur, during which several valuable lectures were discussed by a number of specialist professors within the symposium's themes: -

·        An optimal management of multiple water sources to supply drinking water distribution networks in desert cities.

·        Challenges facing Iraq as a result of low water revenues from riparian countries and ways to rationalize water consumption.

·        Developing a water-energy management system to support sustainable development in Anbar Governorate.

·        Irrigation projects management and the possibility of using the return water (sewage) for agricultural purposes.

Finally, after extensive discussions and exchange of ideas and visions between the lecturers and the attendees, it was came up with a set of recommendations that will be circulated to decision-makers and relevant authorities to work on putting them into practice in the service of the public interest and achieving sustainable development goals.
