Rainwater and runoff harvesting in the western region on April 11, 12, 13

The areas of the Upper Euphrates in the western region witnessed rain in good quantities that contributed to enhancing the water storage of small dams in the region and highlighted the importance of such dams in rainwater harvesting process.
In the interest of the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre to update and develop databases on water incomes because of their importance to researchers and graduate students, in addition to developing plans for the development of the region, the Planning and Databases Department announced the latest statistics on the recent rain wave in the region as follows:
- The depth of rain in the city of Ramadi reached 17.4 mm in the centre's station, according to Dr. Atheer Salim Al-Mawla, the responsible of the station.
- The depth of rain in the terminal was 3.35 mm according to the recorded data mentioned by Mr. Ayoub Yousef Ahmed.
- The depth of rainfall in the city of Rutba reached 42 mm, according to Engineer Ali Saleh from the Department of Resident Engineer for Small Dams.
- Runoff events occurred in Horan valley with a discharge of 200 cubic meters per second and in Hajlan valley with a discharge of 23 cubic meters per second, according to Engineer Juma Muhammad Ahmed, the official of the terminal station in Haditha.
- The floods in the upper Horan Valley and in the Horan Valley inside the city of Rutba were the highest in years, as they peaked at dawn on April 11 with a discharge of approximately 300 cubic meters per second, with the depth of water at the centre's station on the Horan Bridge inside the Rutba reaching 2 m and a width of 80 meters, according to Engineer Ali Saleh from the Small Dams Office.
- The high levels of storage in the Rutba Dam and in the Abila Dam, in addition to the crossing of water from the waterway of the Horan Dam / 3, according to the Office of the Resident Engineer of Small Dams, and this explains the high flood wave at the bottom of Horan valley, which recorded a discharge of about 200 cubic meters per second at its confluence with runoff events down the valley on 12-4-2023.
- Runoff events and changes in the water storage of the region's dams will be followed by satellite images and a detailed report will be issued, according to Dr. Haitham Abdel Mohsen Aften of the Planning and Databases Department, who confirmed obtaining high-importance data on the storage of small dams through satellites of the European Space Agency to be issued later.
- The volume of water resulting from the runoff events of Horan valley from the upper valley areas and to the Horan Dam / 3 is estimated to be about 15.4 million cubic meters, and this explains the passage of water from the dam's waterway.
