A consultative meeting was held at the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre - University of Anbar that included representatives of the centre, the Directorate of Water Resources and the Department of the Resident Engineer for Small Dams in the Western Region to discuss proposals for the water scarcity crisis and drought in the Euphrates River basin.

During the meeting, they reviewed the most important research projects, studies and proposals that would address or reduce the effects of drought and water scarcity and develop ideas for the development and sustainability of water resources in Anbar Governorate and the Upper Euphrates Basin. It was agreed to form a research team that includes researchers, experts and specialists from the university, the Directorate of Water Resources in Anbar and the Department of the Resident Engineer for Small Dams to prepare a hydrological study of the region's valleys, their water revenues and groundwater in the region, and the optimal methods and methods for investing, developing, recharging and sustaining groundwater.

For his part, it was agreed on the need to pay attention to the issue of meteorology and the importance of deploying more stations to include various areas of the province, especially in the depth of the geographical area of the Anbar desert, such as Al-Nukhayb, the Kilo 160 area, the Kasra area, in addition to the Al-Ka'ara area. It was also agreed to use satellite meteorological technology, remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) to conduct hydrological surveys of the areas under study and determine optimal sites for the construction of dams and water harvesting projects.
