Within the scientific activities and based on the directives of the university presidency in opening up to society and confirming the leading role of the university in this field within its strategic plans to achieve the sustainable development goals within Vision 2030, the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre - University of Anbar, in cooperation with the Centre for Desert Studies, the Anbar Investment Commission and the Department of Environment in the province, held its scientific symposium tagged:

((The northern desert in Anbar, lands of gold and opportunities for investment))

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mushtak Talib Al-Neda, President of University of Anbar, and the presence of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Hashem Khalil, Assistant to the President for Scientific Affairs. The symposium included a lecture by Prof. Dr. Abed Saleh Fayyad, in which he gave a full explanation of the most important mineral and natural wealth in the region, the possibilities of investing them, and the extent to which this reflects on development in the region. Consulting Engineer Ghiath Khaled Hussein from the Anbar Investment Commission gave a valuable lecture in which he explained the vision of the Investment Commission, the most important investment opportunities and obstacles related to the work of the Commission, stressing the importance of communication between the Commission and the University and increasing cooperation between them in order to achieve the common goals of achieving comprehensive and sustainable development.

In an intervention by the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, he stressed the importance of coordination and cooperation between the Investment Authority and research Centres at the university, especially in water, environment and renewable energy projects, as these centres have the expertise and scientific capabilities that qualify them to have a very important role in supporting the investment file and the development and success of its projects, appreciating and appreciating the participation of the Authority and the Directorate of Environment in the governorate in this important scientific activity.

For his part, (Engineer Chief of Biologists Ali Hashem Mohammed), representative of the Department of Environment in Anbar province, in his intervention during the symposium, the need for the investment file in the province to include projects that would be environmentally friendly and effective, especially with regard to reducing the effects of climate change, which Iraq is one of the five countries most affected by these changes.

The seminar witnessed extensive discussions on the themes of the symposium, especially with regard to the importance and role of the Investment Authority and the role of this file in the subject of development, and the participants stressed through their interventions the role of the university in the investment file as it is the entity that has a great potential in supporting and developing this file and that it and its research centres have a pivotal role in this file in addition to coordinating with the Ministry of Environment and its formations to activate the role of the university and its participation in various local and international activities, especially those related to the climate change file.

The seminar and discussions were moderated by Prof. Dr. isam Mohammed Abdulhameed as Chairman, and Assistant Prof. Dr. Moneer Naji Ahmed Head of the Natural Resources Development Department at the Centre as Rapporteur, where a number of recommendations were submitted to the relevant authorities to work in support of the investment file in the region and to achieve the desired development goals.
