Monitoring runoff events in the valleys of the western region

With the start of torrential rains this day, Sunday 24-3-2024, the staff of the terminal-Haditha of the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre at University of Anbar began monitoring and measurement operations despite the difficult weather.

Engineer Juma’a Mohammed Ahmed, the station's official, said that the floods were detected at the centre’s station near the Ramadi-Haditha road, and a discharge of 9.5 cubic meters per second was recorded. As for Zagdan valley, a discharge of 45 cubic meters per second was recorded, as runoff events began in the valleys above before noon. As for Hajlan valley, which passes through the city of Haditha, and where the floods began in the afternoon, floods were detected with a discharge of about 30 cubic meters per second.

A detailed bulletin will be issued with the quantities of incoming water and rain recorded during the coming hours hopefully.  It is noteworthy that the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre – University of Anbar, within the university's strategic plans to achieve the goals of sustainable development and Vision 2030, deployed a number of flood measurement and monitoring stations in a number of valleys of the western region during the last two seasons, the first time since the 1975-1976 seasons.
