The first scientific symposium of the year was held today, Monday, February 26, 2024, in the department's Ibn al-Haytham Hall. The theme of the symposium was "Sustainable cities, planning, implementation, and management." It was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering, in collaboration with our centre, the Centre for Strategic Studies, the Renewable Energy Research Centre, and the Engineering Consulting Office at the College of Engineering. The event was held under the auspices of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. The respected Ameer Abdul Rahman Hilal, at the head of the department. After a brief overview of the symposium topic, the host welcomed the attendees and participants and expressed the hope that the event would meet its goals and that the recommendations made will have practical application. The Syndicate of Engineers/Anbar Branch head Hamid Dhuwaib, The Honorable Wissam Hashem Khalil, Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs,   a respected consulting engineer, a number of specialized engineers from various departments of the governorate, members of the college council, faculty, and students attended the symposium to introduce the indicators for sustainable cities through planning, implementation, and optimal management of those cities and infrastructure. Green buildings are one example, along with the strategic benefits of employing renewable energy sources and emphasizing the enhancement of investment project management and its influence on urban sustainability.
