Most of our homes are filled with toxic chemicals, some may know that they are toxic and others may not, and mostly there is no harm in using these materials as long as they are used properly.

What are toxic substances?

It is any chemical that can adversely affect human health, whether by inhalation, ingestion, or absorption through the skin.

These toxic chemicals may exist in nature (such as in some plants), or they may be prepared in a laboratory by forming chemical compounds, such as in household cleaners.

Many products in the home can be toxic, such as: (laundry detergents, floor and furniture polishes, toilet cleaners, cosmetics, air fresheners, insecticides).

The chemicals in these detergents may irritate the skin, eyes, or nose, and may cause poisoning, so care must be taken when using them.

To protect yourself and your family from poisoning with household cleaners, be sure to follow these steps:

·        Always leave the detergent in its original packaging.

·        Please read the label on the cleaner carefully before use.

·        Never mix different cleaning agents together as they may react and produce toxic fumes.

·        Do not inhale the contents of the containers.

·        When using detergents, it is preferable to turn on the exhaust fan and open the window.

·        Keep the cleaner out of the reach of children.

·        Do not store detergents and foodstuffs in the same place.

·        Do not use food utensils such as cups or plates to store detergent.

In the event of poisoning follow these steps:

1. Check the airway, breathing and pulse and start (artificial respiration) if necessary.

2. If the poisoning is severe and the victim has difficulty breathing or loses consciousness, call an ambulance immediately.
