High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, also known as "good cholesterol" or "high-density cholesterol," is considered beneficial for the body as it helps remove harmful cholesterol from blood vessels and reduces its buildup. High-density cholesterol is also believed to play a role in protecting the heart and blood vessels from heart diseases.

HDL cholesterol works by picking up excess cholesterol from tissues and organs and transporting it to the liver for metabolism and excretion. This process is beneficial as it helps reduce cholesterol accumulation in blood vessels and reduces the risk of developing arterial blockages.

Some measures that can be taken to increase high-density cholesterol levels in the body include:

·        Regular physical activity, such as brisk walking or cycling.

·        Consuming foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as fatty fish (e.g., salmon and tuna) and nuts like almonds and walnuts.

·        Quitting smoking, as smoking is known to reduce high-density cholesterol levels.

However, it should be noted that despite the benefits of high-density cholesterol, it should not be solely relied upon for achieving good heart and vascular health. It is also important to monitor and manage overall cholesterol levels and triglycerides in the blood, follow a healthy diet, engage in regular physical activity, and continue regular check-ups with a healthcare provider to assess overall health and evaluate personal risks.
