Postgraduate studies

The public discussion took place for the master’s student (Adel Suleiman Jamil), a student in the Department of Civil Engineering - College of Engineering - Anbar University, about his thesis titled:

(PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE PROGRAMMING AT NETWORK LEVEL USING META-HEURISTIC ALGORITHM)
The thesis submitted by the student aims to provide a simple and effective framework by developing a multi-objective optimization algorithm to estimate the optimal M&R scheme for pavements during the study period. The main contributions made by this study are as follows.
The discussion committee consisted of:
- prof. Raqem Muhammad Nihad           Chairman
-Assistant Prof. Hamed Ahmed Awad      Member
- Assistant Prof. Juma Awad Hamad     Member
- Assistant Prof. Maher Shaker Mahmoud, Member and Supervisor
-Prof. Issam Taha Yassin          Member and Supervisor.

The thesis involved using a simple multi-objective algorithm called iterative local search, also known as ILS, which is a simple heuristic that applies local search iteratively to changes in the location where the search is currently being performed. ILS differs from other methods such as simulated annealing and blocked search in the sense that it does not adhere to a single path through the search space. Instead, it applies solution adjustments that correspond to jumps in the search space in order to preserve local minima, inserting the available data into multiple matrices for each year and repeating the attempts until the optimal solution is obtained.

The results of the study indicated that you should use a case study so that all stages of the performance management system can be understood in a simple and straightforward way. The case study was conducted on a selection of pavement sections by performing section classification, degradation prediction, and finally maintenance decision optimization using methodologies developed as part of this research. It is important to note that the variable nature of data has an impact on section classification and forecasting, and ultimately improving maintenance

The discussion was attended by Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Mohamed Abdel Ahmed, and Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Prof. Prof. The respected Ahmed Tariq Noman and a number of Postgraduate students in the department.
Congratulations to the student for obtaining the certificate, and to the discussion committee. We wish him the completion of the scientific consultation.
