Under the patronage of the respected Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Dr. Labib Zouian Mseikh, our college's Women's Empowerment Unit held a scientific awareness lecture today, Tuesday, December 5, 2023, entitled "Eliminating Violence Against Women." The lecture was attended by the college dean, several of its professors and staff, and its students. The lecture was presented by Dr. Idris Askar Hassan, a faculty member at the College of Islamic Sciences, who discussed women's rights in Islam and other eras. He emphasized that violence against women remains largely unknown and widespread, constituting one of the most prevalent and persistent human rights violations due to factors such as impunity and silence. He explained that violence against women forms a barrier to achieving equality, development, and peace, as well as fulfilling women's human rights, as designated by the United Nations General Assembly on November 25 (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women). The aim of this day is to raise awareness about the extent of the problems faced by women worldwide, such as domestic violence and other forms of multiple violence. In a statement, Dr. Labib Zouian Mseikh expressed the college's determination to offer such awareness and educational lectures to combat this phenomenon, emphasizing that it is a global pandemic taking various physical and psychological forms, occurring in both public and private spaces. In conclusion, the dean expressed gratitude and appreciation to all those involved in organizing the lecture and to all the attendees, wishing for further progress and contributions to our university and college.
