As part of the scientific efforts aimed to consolidate the scientific research for graduate students at the College of Agriculture, graduate student (Master) in the Department of Plant Protection, Ghufran Ali Abdullah, was able to isolate and diagnose two new species of nematodes Meloidogyne spp. (Meloidogyne luci; Meloidogyne cruciani) pathogens of eggplant plant. Both species, in addition to two others, were registered at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) under the supervision of Prof.Assist.Dr. Hammoud Mahdi Saleh and Prof. Dr. Asmaa Mansour Abdel-Rasoul. The registration of Meloidogyne luci is the first of its kind in Iraq, after conducting a wide field survey, the results of which were confirmed by the molecular diagnosis of these species.
