This branch is considered one of the four clinical branches in the Faculty of Medicine. This branch includes delicate surgical specialties in addition to the mother specialization, general surgery. The surgery branch adopts an organized training program to teach surgery theoretically and practically to undergraduate students, in addition to providing the teaching staff of the department with academic and educational expertise. The branch has a special program for training and granting a diploma degree in general surgery, in addition to being an accredited training center for postgraduate students in the Iraqi Council for Medical Specialization in Urology.
