HgA1c or glycosylated hemoglobin

HgA1c or glycosylated hemoglobin

HgA1c or glycosylated hemoglobin, is a blood test, in which we can find out the  hemoglobin-linked glucose level.

Hemoglobin is a protein found in RBCs which are responsible for transporting O2 through out the body, we should note that normal RBCs’ life span is about 12 weeks, that’s why there’s a direct proportional relationship between the results of HgA1c and the mean glucose level in the past 3 months. So that, elevated levels of serum blood glucose means that the glucose molecules that are combined to HbA are also elevated, forming Glycosylated hemoglobin. And this occurs in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus.
