Finite Element Method and Its Application on Dam Analysis

Dr. Mohannad Haqi Ismail presented a lecture in the section summarizing a brief explanation of the FEM method and its importance in solving engineering problems that do not have an analytical mathematical solution and how they are applied in most different fields of engineering that require calculation of stresses and distortions due to external loads.

It is also explained how to use this method in the analysis of dams, especially "Arc dams, which have complex arches ,,, where this type of dam can not be analyzed by conventional methods, the FEM method was used using elements of 3D dimensions.

Among the range of engineering programs using the FEM method, the ANSYS program has been selected for the analysis of arched dams. This program makes the analysis of complex dams possible with"

The workshop focused mainly on how to find the places of high stresses and distortions in the arched dam, which is of utmost importance in the optimal design of dams, and some conclusions were given in this respect.

The seminar was attended by a number of trainees, members of the scientific committee in the department and postgraduate students.
