Free training course entitled (Water Needs in Light of Climate Change)


Within the activities of the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre / Human Resources Development Department, and in cooperation with the Continuing Education Centre at the Presidency of the University of Anbar and under the direct supervision of the Director of the Centre, Prof. Dr. Ammar Hatem Kamel, the free training course tagged: (Water Needs in Light of Climate Change), which lasted for three days for the period 5-6/5/2024, was concluded on Tuesday, 7/5/2024, on the main hall of the Centre.

Prof. Dr. Isam Mohammed Abdulhameed, Assistant Professor Dr. Moneer Naji Ahmed, and Assistant Instructor Saleh Mahmood Saleh lectured in the course, which included several important topics related to the amount of need for water in light of the climate changes witnessed by the world in general, and Iraq in particular.

The first lecture: presented by Prof. Dr. Isam Mohammed Abdulhameed, in which he talked about what we do not know about water, what climate change is, its most important causes, the most important international laws that limit climate change, the addition of climate factors in the Holy Revelation, climate factors and human behaviour, and the integrated system that links soil, plants and the gaseous atmosphere.

As for the second lecture, Assistant Professor Dr. Muneer Naji Ahmed gave a detailed explanation of the objectives of the course, which included, a statement of the reality of water resources in Iraq, the future of water resources in Iraq, the impact of climate change, and solutions that can reduce the risks of climate change, in addition to presenting many topics related to the current water situation of water resources in Iraq, the impact of Turkish dams on these resources, and the impact of water scarcity on the future of water revenues and Iraq's need for them.

And the third lecture: presented by the assistant Instructor Saleh Mahmood Saleh, which was entitled: When to irrigate and how much water to add? In it, he talked about the science of irrigation, the factors affecting water needs, and the climatic factors that include (temperature, sunlight, moisture, and wind).

The course witnessed the presence of the centre’s researchers and a number of researchers from colleges and research centres at the university, and the course included some questions in different axes about water needs in light of climate change, which concluded with a test in the topics that were presented in the course for all participants.
