Discussion of a doctoral thesis for the student (Mahir Abdul Rahim Muhameed)

The public discussion of the doctoral student (Mahir Abdul Rahim Muhameed) of the Department of Chemistry - College of Science - University of Anbar took place on Thursday 12/29/2022 in Jaber Bin Hayyan Hall in the College of Science for his thesis tagged: -

(Synthesis, Characterization, Theoretical and Application Study for New Mannich Bases Ligands  Derived from Piperazine and their Some Metal Ions Complexes)

The study includes:

Synthesis of two novel ligands Manish bases (L1 and L2) using piperazine and phenyl pirazine. Then, the first ligand, L1, is reacted in several steps with zinc, nickel and palladium ions using the template method to produce C1, C2, and C3 complexes. While the second ligand and L2 interact with the same ions to produce C4, C5, and C6 complexes, the prepared compounds were characterized using FT- IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and elemental analysis method. The molecular geometry and properties of the prepared compounds were studied using density functional theory. Affinity of L1-Metal complexes to bind to β-cyclodextrin. complexes has been tested as anticancer and antibacterial agents; the study involves the potential effect of complexes against Gram-positive Enterococcus faecalis and Gram-negative K. pneumoniae bacteria, as well as the selectivity towards  MCF-7 cancer cell in vitro.
