Discussion of a master’s thesis by student Marwa Mahdi Latif

The public discussion took place for the Master’s Student ( Marwa Mahdi Latif) At Anbar University, College of Science, Department of Chemistry, for his tagged thesis

" Preparation and Characterization of mixed ligand complexes with transitional metal ions and their application."

On Wednesday, 20/12/2023, at ten in the morning, in the Jaber Bin Hayyan Hall in the College of Science

The discussion committee consists of:

1- Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hussein Ismail, Al-Mustansiriya University - College of Science    Chairman

2-Assist. Prof. Dr. Sattar Rajab Majeed, Anbar University - College of Science, member

3- Assist. Dr. Nabil Arif Tawfiq, Anbar University - College of Education for Girls, member

4- Prof. Dr. Omar Hamad Shihab, Anbar University - College of Science, member and supervisor

In this study, fourteen new complexes were prepared, divided into two groups, each group consisting of seven complexes. And trivalent (Fe) and the second group is done by reacting the ligand at the primary damidone with the secondary ligand dibenzothiophene with chlorides of the transitional elements as in the first group.

These complexes were characterized by different colors and different fusibility and solubility as well. The prepared compounds were diagnosed by means of mass spectrometry in the infrared, visible, and ultraviolet rays. The electrical recommendation, molarity, and magnetic sensitivity of the prepared complexes were also measured, and the biological effectiveness of the complexes against bacteria and fungi was measured. From the results of the diagnosis, it was found that.
1- The ligands (L1, L2) are connected and act as double-bonded cleands with the metal ion, linked through two carbonyl groups, and L3 is characterized as a single-bond cleand with the metal ion, linked through the sulfur atom.
2- The octahedral form of the complexes of the first group and the octahedral and tetrahedral form of the complexes of the second group were proposed through the infrared and ultraviolet-visible spectra, magnetic sensitivity and molar electrical conductivity if the results of the magnetic sensitivity indicated that the complexes of the first group have paramagnetic properties except Zn,Cd and complexes of the second group also have paramagnetic properties except for Zn,Cd. As for the molar electrical conductivity, it showed that all the complexes of the first group are non-electrolytic, and that the second group is also electrolytic except for Zn,Cd,Cu, and that the transitional elements are linked by covalent bonds.
After discussion by members of the discussion committee of the thesis topic, the thesis was accepted (fulfilling the conditions)
