Application of green chemistry and sustainable development goals

The College of Science at Anbar University witnessed the activities of a distinguished scientific course entitled ((Application of Green Chemistry in the Resource Reuse System to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals)), which lasted for three days from March 24 to 26, 2024.

The course was held in Ibn Sina Hall, and was organized by the Chemistry Department in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center. The course included valuable lectures presented by an elite group of specialized academics, namely:
Dr. Yousry Mahmoud Al-Obaidi, Dr. Ahmed Sobhi Yahya, and Dr. Khudair Yas Khudair
They shared their experiences and the latest research in the field of green chemistry and nanotechnology towards achieving sustainable development goals.
It is worth noting that the primary goal of holding this important scientific course is about the application of green chemistry and the role of nanotechnology towards achieving the goals of sustainable development and methods for preparing nanomaterials from agricultural waste and their applications in various medical, industrial and engineering fields, in addition to extracting organic acids and using them as alternative fertilizers to chemical fertilizers.
The scientific session came out with several recommendations, the most important of which are:
  1. Society must be made aware of the importance of green chemistry and its advantages in preserving the environment and public health
2. Make effective use of natural resources and reduce waste.
3. Inventing new manufacturing methods to prepare nanomaterials from agricultural waste that are environmentally beneficial and economically feasible.
4. Designing projects to produce high-value nanomaterials, such as nanofibers and carbon nanotubes, and employing these nanomaterials in various industries, such as renewable energy, health, and the environment.
6. Integrating green nanomaterials production programs into sustainable development strategies for the industrial sectors and the environment.
7. The research trends of researchers and graduate students should be towards achieving sustainable development goals.
To apply the principles of green chemistry in scientific research, which is extremely important in the current era as it contributes to preserving the environment and achieving sustainable development.
