Heavy elements in water and how to reduce their risk

Heavy elements in water affect the human body when exposed to these elements in large quantities or continuously for a long time.  These elements can damage tissues, organs, and the nervous system, and can increase the risk of chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and cancer.

 Among the heavy elements that can accumulate in the human body as a result of exposure to it in water are lead, mercury, cadmium, zinc and copper.  The health effects of these heavy elements vary depending on the element and the level of exposure, and can include symptoms such as diarrheae, nausea, fatigue, headache, hepatitis, shortness of breath and acute poisoning.

 To avoid exposure of the body to heavy elements in the water, drinking water that complies with specific health standards must be consumed, and exposure to industrial and environmental pollutants that can cause heavy metals to pass into the water must be avoided.

 Washing water containing heavy metals is a major source of environmental pollution.  This water can contain many heavy elements, such as lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, chromium, and others.  Wash water contaminated with heavy elements is usually produced from industrial, mining, agricultural, industrial and domestic cleaning activities, and it is difficult to dispose of it effectively and safely.  Work must be done to improve industrial, mining and agricultural technologies and procedures to reduce the waste produced.  Environmentally friendly practices must also be implemented in homes, institutions and industries, such as recycling materials and using environmentally friendly cleaning materials.

 Bathing in water containing heavy elements may affect human health, especially if exposure to this water is frequent and for long periods.  Usually, the heavy elements present in water are not in large quantities that pose a health hazard, but if a person is exposed to this water for long periods, some elements may accumulate in the human body and cause health problems.  For example, lead is a heavy element that accumulates in the body and can cause damage to the brain, kidneys and nerves, and mercury can accumulate in the body and affect the nervous and immune systems and cause serious health problems.  Therefore, it is important to ensure that clean and safe water is used for washing, and water quality can be improved by using appropriate water purification systems and avoiding frequent exposure to water contaminated with heavy elements.

 Plants affect heavy metals in different ways.  Among the most important of these methods:

 1. Chemical precipitation: Plants can precipitate some heavy elements through chemical reactions that occur in plant roots.  This helps in reducing the concentration of these elements in the soil.

 2. Accumulation in the plant: Plants can absorb some heavy elements from the soil and store them in its various parts such as leaves, roots and stems.  The extent to which heavy metals accumulate in a plant depends on the characteristics of the plant and the type of heavy metal.

 3. Reducing the spread: The plant is used in the filtration process to limit the spread of heavy metals in the water and soil.  When plants are grown in places that contain high concentrations of heavy elements, they absorb these elements and granulate them within their roots, which prevents them from reaching ground or surface water.

 In general, plants can help reduce the concentrations of heavy metals in soil and water and prevent their spread, but sometimes they may accumulate in plant parts and thus be transferred to animals.

 

 Among the plants and greens that can help reduce the accumulation of heavy elements in the body:

 1. Broccoli: Broccoli contains antioxidants that help remove toxins from the body.

 2. Garlic: Garlic contains selenium, which helps remove mercury from the body.

 3. Green tea: Green tea contains antioxidant compounds that help reduce the effect of heavy metals in the body.

 4. Celery: Celery contains substances useful for the digestive system, and it also helps in removing toxins from the body.

 5. Coriander: Coriander contains antioxidants and helps remove mercury from the body.

 6. Spinach: Spinach contains iron, calcium and magnesium, and it also contains antioxidants that help reduce the concentration of some heavy elements in the body.

 However, individuals who complain of heavy metal build-up in their body should get the necessary medical treatment and consult with their physician to determine the best options.

 In addition to the plants and vegetables that I mentioned earlier, there are some foods and nutritional supplements that can help reduce the accumulation of heavy elements in the body, namely:

 1. Honey: Honey contains antioxidants that play a role in reducing the concentration of harmful elements in the body.

 2. Green juices: Green juices contain high levels of fiber, vitamins and minerals, and work to cleanse the body of toxins and reduce the accumulation of heavy elements.

 3. Foods rich in vitamin C: Vitamin C helps to get rid of some excess elements from the body's need. Among the foods rich in it are hot peppers, sweet peppers, strawberries, oranges, and parsley.

 4. Foods rich in fiber: Fiber cleanses the body of toxins, and fiber can be obtained from plant foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

 5. Dietary supplements: Some nutritional supplements such as chlorella, selenium, and alpha lipoic acid can be used to reduce the accumulation of heavy elements in the body, but you should consult a doctor before using any nutritional supplements.

In general, known sources of heavy elements such as industrial pollutants, toxins and fish that contain high levels of mercury should be avoided. Healthy and varied foods should be eaten and pure water should be drunk to maintain the health of the body and reduce the apparent effect of these elements on the body.
