University of Anbar Vice-President for Scientific Affairs Attends Polonga Process Conference for Higher Education of Iraq

 

Under the patronage and presence of his excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Nabil Kazem Abdel-Saheb, Polonga process conference for higher education of Iraq and the workshop for launching the second report to follow up the national development plan for higher education were held in Babel Hotel.

Pro. Dr. Muthanna Muhammad Awwad, Vice-President for Scientific Affairs, participated in the conference and the workshop as representative of university of Anbar based on an invitation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research/ Department of Studies, Planning and Follow-up. This participation based on the directions of the university president, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Taleb Saleh Al-Nada. A number of the advanced staff in the ministry along with participants from other Iraqi universities’ presidents, vice-presidents, and representatives of universities in the Kurdistan region attended this conference and workshop. Wherein, some lecturers and experts from reputable international universities gave a speech in the workshop and lectures.

The university of Anbar vice-president indicated that the conference aims to develop the educational process in Iraq and promotes the academic and technical levels in Iraqi universities to international standards. The conference included the launch of a workshop to present the second report to follow up on the national development plan of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for the previous two academic years. The strategies division in the department of studies, planning and follow-up presented the workshop, which indicated during the presentation the percentage of achievement for the activities related to the four goals, based on the performance indicators for each activity. Despite the challenges of health and economic situation, the total number of activities was twenty-seven and forty-eight indicators within the context of the advanced achievement for the majority of academic programs and activities during the past two years.

On the other hand, the conference included a number of workshops and lectures which discussed the educational project of Polonga process implemented by Spark organization under the support of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project aims to develop higher education through working on modernizing and developing educational systems in Iraqi universities. The project is concerned with developing learners’ scientific and professional capabilities, thus building a higher education system that preserves scientific and technical development.
