The public discussion of a master's student (Layth Lateef Hamid)

The public discussion of the master's student (Layth Lateef Hamid), Department of Biology - College of Science – University of Anbar, took place on Sunday 25/4/2021 at the Jaber Bin Hayyan Hall in the College of Science about his thesis:

Role of proteases in biofilm disassembling produced by clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus

The discussion committee consisted of:

Prof. Dr. Essam Fadel Alwan, University of Baghdad / Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Institute, Chairman

Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali Hazim Abd Alkareem, University of Anbar - College of Science, Member

Lecturer Mayada A. Shehan, University of Anbar - College of Science, Member

Assist. Prof. Dr. Safaa Abed Latef, University of Anbar - College of Science, member and supervisor

The study aims to evaluate the role of protease enzymes in regulating biofilm formation produced by clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus and using these enzymes to disassembling biofilms. As well as studying the distribution of genes responsible for producing protease enzymes in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and their relationship with enzyme activity, antibiotic resistance and biofilms formation, Also, evaluating the role of essential oils extracted from basil volatile oil and Ellagic acid to inhibit bacterial growth and as an anti-biofilm.

The results showed a clear effect of protease enzymes in regulating and destroying S. aureus biofilms, as well as the great role of natural materials used in inhibiting the growth of bacteria and biofilms.

And after extensive discussion by the committee members with the student of his thesis, the thesis was accepted.

Congratulations to the student, the supervisor, the College of Science, and the discussion committee.
