Genotypic and Physiological Responses to Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) Subjected to Heat, Drought and Salinity

The study aimed to know the effect of various environmental factors such as heat, drought and salinity of three varieties of sesame plant (Wadaa, Sumer, and Local) and to study the various physiological characteristics at different age stages of the plant, and the gene expression of three antioxidant genes (SOD, CAT, APX) using RT-PCR under the influence of these factors

The results showed that the two varieties Wadaa and Sumer were distinguished by most of the physiological characteristics ,as well as  Local variety was distinguished by the gene expression of the three antioxidants gene affected by heat treatments, and there were no differences between the three varieties in response to the drought treatments in most of the physiological traits, while the gene expression of CAT, APX increased. The variety Wadaa was characterized by its tolerance to salinity in most of the physiological characteristics and the gene expression of the antioxidants CAT, APX.
